Parking Policy
The Transportation and Parking Office in the Department of Public Safety usually initiates parking registration season in May. Each department is issued a limited number of parking permits to distribute according to their own policies. The UNC Neuroscience Center assigns parking as follows.

One permit is reserved for the Director and Business Manager.
Permanent Staff based in the Neuroscience Center are assigned parking according to years of state service.
Postdocs are eligible by lottery for CD, S11, F and P lots.
(T&P policy)
Temporary Staff are ineligible for campus parking but may apply for free Park & Ride lot permits if living outside a two-mile radius of campus, or further than ¼ mile from a bus stop.
(T&P policy)
The Transportation and Parking Office contacts graduate and undergraduate students in the spring. Lot assignment is arranged directly with that office, separate from department registration procedure.
(T&P policy)

If these policies leave you without parking, registration for free Park and Ride lots is generally available to persons living outside a two mile radius of campus, or further than ¼ mile from a bus stop. In addition to regular lot assignments, free parking in the Hospital Decks is usually available after 5:00 by special permit. See the Department Parking Coordinator.

Parking permits are valid for one year starting mid-August. Over the course of the school year, parking spaces may be freed up as personnel move elsewhere. These spaces are re-assigned to the next person in line. Refund cut-off dates are the 1st and the 16th of every month; all refunds and new charges are pro-rated.

Please be aware that construction on campus sometimes disrupts or permanently eliminates parking. The goal of our department's parking policy is fair and equitable distribution of available permits. Parking policies of both the UNC Neuroscience Center and the Transportation and Parking Office are subject to change.

All questions about parking should first go to the Department Parking Coordinator, Dallas Carter. The Transportation & Parking Office does not have enough staff to handle individual inquiries; they rely on Department Parking Coordinators to provide information and assistance, and will refer individual inquiries back to departments.
